A young lion, with a developing mane, is lying in the grass alongside the lifeless body of a horned animal, possibly a buffalo. The lion's mouth is slightly ajar, revealing his teeth, and he looks to the side with what appears to be an alert expression, perhaps on the lookout for scavengers or other threats to his meal. Sunlight filters through, highlighting the textures of the lion's fur as well as the shiny curve of the fallen animal's horn.
